Irish Club of Willimantic

About Us

the Irish Club of Willimantic was formed June 18, 1980 by a group eager to share their many common backgrounds and interests. The following Spring, two members (Richard Kelley and Phil Barry) traveled to Ireland taking with them the Club’s Constitution and Bylaws which had been drawn up on the 15th of October. The document was signed by the Lord Mayor of Dublin himself in May of 1981.

The purpose of the club is two-fold. One is to foster understanding and appreciation of our Irish Heritage and secondly to engage in social and recreational activities as the membership deems appropriate.

To keep members informed, the Club mails a newsletter (usually bi-monthly). It includes all manner of things: club news, historical info, details of nearby Celtic celebrations and events, Irish recipes, travel plans, etc...etc.

Club meetings are held the third Tuesday evening (7:00) at the French Club on Club Road in Windham. After our business part of the meeting we usually enjoy a different theme each month (a film, a special visitor, a tea-cup auction, etc.) followed by refreshments. Anyone wishing to join our club is welcome to visit a meeting, talk with our members, ask questions and stay for refreshments.

Membership is open to anyone Irish, of Irish descent or married to an Irish member (must be over 18). There are normal dues of $20 per year ($15 for 65+) - these are due each year on March 17th.
